Tuna fishing guide needed??

Pacific salmon charters out of illwaco has been a good fun charter that i have used a couple times, they do tuna trips.

I've been looking for a tuna guide for four as well.  I'm following the advice of Robbo.  That man would be in the know.

Mark and the captain that he has working for him do a really good job and you can put a small group on the boat and have it to yourselves. Nothing against the bigger boats...I just like the day trip program that Mark runs and he works really hard for his customers. Best of luck to you guys!

Another vote for the All Rivers Crew, just got done with a San Juans ling Cod trip with them. Will give a report and pics later, all I can say it was an epic day for lings though. I am planning a Tuna trip and maybe something else with them. They are a First Class operation, having been a guide myself I am very impressed with Mark Coleman's operation.

Another vote for Mark, you won't be disapointed.

I heard Jim was chartering now out of his boat the Epic, thats the first time I've seen his site. Its a sweet boat and Jim's a nice guy, but I've never fished with him so can't say how he handles it when it comes to chartering. He catches fish but I'd have to say Mark probably has a little more experience... (just my opinion) and Jim's boat used to break down a lot. Seeing as hes chartering now hopefully he's got all the bugs worked out, because that is one heck of a fishing boat he's got.

Jim is on fish all the time, and his boat never breaks down... not sure where you got that information but it is total bull. I've been on Epic several times since Jim bought it, and I bought his old boat, so we buddy boat every weekend.  I've never seen him with problems except the first time we went out for halibut when he switched tanks and got some air in the system, after bleeding them out, he came back in on his own power.   Just setting the record straight on Epic.

I also happen to know Jim was catching tuna for 10 years before Mark ever got an off-shore boat, so while Mark may have fished more days lately as Jim runs a full time business and only fishes weekends for the most part, Mark certainly hasn't got the overall experience fishing the ocean that Jim does. 

Don't get me wrong, I love fishing with Mark - he's totally got it dialed in and his boat seems nice (Only chartered with him on his sled).  The only problem I see with Mark is that he is usually fully booked.

The problem we encountered with the small one day boat was the fish were down SW farther than he could run in a day and back. We fished the typical guides canyon area all day for a couple bites. No boats around at all. The fleet was down near The Big C loading up.

Mark is awesome and top notch equipment, but if the run is farther than he wants to go you will be limited to the area's he can reach.

I've fished on the EPIC with Jim and he is an amazing captain and great guy.  Always on fish, I would highly recommend him.  I haven't fished with Mark yet, but my buddies have and said it was great, we have a tuna trip booked in early september with him so I will get to find out for myself.

 This is Jim. I do not know SIRMISSALOT. I am not sure he knows me. I try to always give opinions based on actuall informed decisions or information. Just saying??
 FYI, I have been fishing the salt for 40 years. I have always owned a boat large enough to get it done. I did purchase a boat 4 years ago that was kept in a heated shop. I found out I am pickier than the previous owner. I did correct a few items and updated the electronics. I have never been to the salt with this boat and not gone out or returned on my own power. I run a commercial construction company here in the northwest. We service 5 western states. I do not need to fish for a living I do it because I enjoy being able to share some of my expierence with those who do not have the same options I do. As an example the last day of halibut we released 76 halibut by 11:30 am. I like to give my fisherman an experience of a life time if I can. We upgraded to larger fish. We were catching 2 at a time . I am not a clock watcher. We do not head in with the first limit of legal fish. It is about catching with us not fishing. We try hard to make it as much fun as possible. I hold 400 gallons of deisel. I will run as far as 100 miles for tuna if necessary. My boat is not as fast as some. I cruise at a pretty consistant 20 KNTs. The weather conditions do not dictate my range to often. I have a large heated cabin that seats 6 very comfortably. I even have people sleeping in the v berth on the way back in even in heavy seas. My boat weighs 20k. It is warm comfortable and very reliable.

  I believe your name is Chad. Well chad now you can make an informed opinion regarding the state of my boats condition. If you would like to go one step further come with me and catch some fish. True I only fish weekends. I have been completely booked all summer. Other than cancelations we are full.

 I have heard nothing but great reviews about Mark Coleman. I know several people who have fished with him and have had nothing bad to say. I have met Mark several times and have always had pleasant conversation. If you are looking for someone to fish with he will probably have more opportunity than I will.

[Practical Approach]

no wonder it is always booked up.  One of the most highly recommended guides runs 6 guys at a time and the other only fishes weekends.  Sounds like some of you weekend tuna warriors need to get your guide licenses.
